Cultural background and experience

Anita feels that she was immersed in a type of cross-cultural life since childhood as her parents, though both Indian, belong to communities quite different from each other. Learning to navigate those differences, helped develop skills to read subtle nuances as different people interacted. She believes that is what encouraged her to learn more about this field and she continued to build on that foundation.

Additionally, Anita’s 10 year career in the UAE provided the perfect opportunity to learn about a wide range of cultures. Working in diverse teams gave her first-hand experience of the struggles and frustrations that occur and she learnt to manage those challenges, learning lessons on how to mitigate them to get the job done.

Anita has developed the curricula and taught the following courses at the University of New Brunswick: Cross-Cultural Communications and Negotiations, MBA Program, UNBSJ; Diversity in the Workplace, UNBF.

She also conducts workshops on ’The Role of Culture in Healthcare’ and ’Health Literacy’ for healthcare professionals.
